I will give you a ride

Wǒ zài nǐ

Dā wǒ de biàn chē ba

Wǒ sòng nǐ

Red car on empty road under a cloudy sky. Text: "I WILL GIVE YOU A RIDE" and Chinese "我載你 WǑ ZÀI NǏ" with humorous tone.

Once, after a business trip, one colleague asked, "How are you getting home?"

I replied, "By taxi."

He said, 我載你 (I will drive you) "I will give you a ride!"

I said, "Sure!" (But he usually doesn't drive. Did he drive himself to the airport this time?)

Then he asked, "What's your address?" (He handed me his phone, and it was on the Uber app.)

Me: (Ah, so he meant he will use Uber!)

"I will give you a ride" in Mandarin Chinese can be:

Wǒ zài nǐ

Dā wǒ de biàn chē ba

Wǒ sòng nǐ

However, "我載你" is more commonly used when you drive a car and "I will give you a ride."

So next time, if you are not the one driving, "搭我的便車吧"( Dā wǒ de biàn chē ba) or "我送你" (Wǒ sòng nǐ) would be more appropriate!
